Einige von euch bekommen ja Kaffee und/oder Espresso von uns. Den Rohkaffee beziehen wir von der Frauen-Kooperative Las Diosas in Nicaragua. Die letzte Rohkaffee-Lieferung haben wir im August 2021 aufgegeben. Die 12 Säcke werden voraussichtlich im Laufe dieses oder Anfang nächsten Jahres aufgebraucht sein. Daher haben wir eine neue Bestellung aufgegeben. Der ursprünglich vereinbare Preis lag bei 2,90 USD pro Pfund. Las Diosas möchte nun, dass wir 3,20 USD pro Pfund bezahlen. Das haben sie mit Cooperative Coffee, einem Importeur aus den USA, ebenfalls schon ausgehandelt. Zur Begründung, warum diese Preisanpassung nötig ist, schreibt Cristian Guzmán Merlos, genannt Cris:
The price increase has to do with various reasons. Production costs around the world have increased in general. In Nicaragua, many people emigrated before the coffee harvest even began. Many family members live abroad now and can not help with the coffee harvest. But it takes a lot of people to harvest the coffee. The costs that people can demand at harvest time have therefore increased. The costs for the dry processing (beneficiado seco) of the coffee have also increased. We have to buy the service externally and it has increased significantly.
Due to climate change, more applications of organic fertilizers are required for plants to be strengthened and able to withstand high temperatures and diseases caused by climate variability.
We know on a global scale that the price of coffee is low compared to last year, but the cost of living has risen and productive activities are picking up. The hotter the temperatures or the rains, the more work is needed to strengthen the plants to withstand the diseases caused by the heavy rainfall or prolonged drought.Hence the price increase.
Cris, die wir bei ihrem Deutschland-Besuch letztes Jahr kennenlernen durften, hat, wie wir finden, viele gute und nachvollziehbare Argumente: Inflation, Migration, Klimawandel. Auch der Weltladen, der ebenfalls Kaffee von Las Diosas bezieht, hat bereits zugestimmt, den höheren Preis zu zahlen. Wir sind solidarisch und gehen bei der Erhöhung von etwa 10% ebenfalls mit.
Für euch als Endabnehmer*innen hat dieser Anstieg keine Auswirkungen. Wir haben recht konservativ kalkuliert und haben deshalb noch einen Puffer. Wie lang der reicht, hängt von vielen Faktoren ab. Aktuell sieht es aber noch sehr gut aus!
